Race Walk Executive Committee
*USATF taking over decisions for Race Walk Team medical staff (i.e. World Race Walking Team Championships and Pan American Race Walk Cup).
*There will be separate Marathon/Race Walk support going to Sapporo.
*Current options for development tiered race walk athletes include domestic and NACAC Area Grant competitive opportunity.
Race Walk General Session
*There has been a proposal to use a new shoe insert technology in race walking to more effectively detect “lifting” violations. The technology has passed stage 1 of testing but stage 2 has been postponed indefinitely. Part of the issue is that due to patent constraints not much is known about the shoe inserts. Part of the push for the inserts is to change event distances to shorter events where it is more difficult for judges to make calls for rule violations. Beginning in Eugene 2021, events will most likely be 20km and 35km (currently 20km and 50km). Previously there was a proposal by the IAAF Race Walk Committee to move the 20km down to 10km in future world championship/Olympic Games, but that type of change will not occur without the implementation of the shoe insert.
*A major change to race walk operating procedure was to change election procedures to force voters to have to remain in the room during the entire duration of race walk elections (from candidate speeches to the end of voting) in order to be eligible to vote. The athletes were able to get this overturned as it makes it difficult for the athletes to ensure we have enough voting members.
